Job Description:

Directors of Operations (COO) oversee the day-to-day functions of a company. They are responsible for ensuring that the organization runs efficiently, meeting performance targets and managing resources effectively.

Skills Required:

  1. Operational Excellence: Streamlining processes for optimal performance.
  2. Team Leadership: Managing and motivating operational teams.
  3. Data Analysis: Utilizing data to make informed decisions.
  4. Strategic Planning: Developing and executing operational strategies.
  5. Problem-Solving: Resolving operational challenges effectively.

Education and Certification Needed:

A Master’s degree in Business, Management, or a related field is often preferred. In some cases, relevant experience in the industry or a good existing network may be considered in lieu of formal education. A thorough understanding of regulations is essential. Also, PMP certifications or a previous experience in consulting is a plus. Certifications like Lean Six Sigma can be beneficial.

Starting Salary

In Europe, the starting salary for a Director of Operations typically ranges from €75,000 to €150,000 per year.

Possible Evolutions

Directors of Operations can advance to roles like Vice President of Operations or Chief Executive Officer (CEO). They may also explore opportunities in consultancy or entrepreneurship.
