Job Description:

Supply Managers are the linchpins of efficient supply chains in the business world. They are entrusted with procuring and managing goods and services to ensure a cost-effective, well-functioning supply chain that caters to the company’s needs.

Skills Required:

  1. Supply Chain Knowledge: A deep understanding of logistics and procurement.
  2. Negotiation Skills: Proficiency in securing favorable supply contracts.
  3. Analytical Skills: The ability to assess supply chain performance.
  4. Inventory Management: Keeping a vigilant eye on stock levels.
  5. Vendor Management: Building and nurturing relationships with suppliers.

Education and Certification Needed:

Typically, Master’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field is expected. Professional certifications like CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply) can add value to your profile. Various logistics certifications can also be a major plus (CMA, CSCP..).

Starting Salary

In Europe, the starting salary for a Supply Manager typically ranges from €45,000 to €60,000 per year.

Possible Evolutions

Supply Managers can climb the ladder to become Procurement Directors or Operations Directors. Alternatively, they may delve into VP of logistics or global supply chain consulting roles.
